Falcon is the essential Rhino. It is the series we build when you take away the things that are nice to have and keep the things that decide whether a safe does its job. What stays is the part that matters most, and it is the same part we put in safes that cost four times as much.
Every Falcon carries our patented SafeX® Security System, and every Falcon is built in Caldwell, Idaho. Neither of those is an upgrade, and neither is reserved for the top of the line.
The Same SafeX® System, On Every Falcon
Safes are not usually opened through the lock. They are opened at the seam. A conventional safe throws bolts out behind the door frame, so a bar worked into the gap between the door and the body can lever the two apart until those bolts have nothing left to grip. That is the attack almost every safe in this price range is vulnerable to, and it is the one we designed around.
Our patented SafeX® Security System interlocks the door and the body instead of relying on bolt throw. Wide flanged anchor studs are built into the door frame and pass into the door as it closes, and turning the handle drives a steel locking plate behind the rim of those studs. Prying then works against the structure of the safe rather than against the bolts, and there is very little left for a bar to catch.
Behind that, the lock is a UL listed electronic lock protected by a hardened armor plate and a spring loaded relocker that fires if the lock is drilled or attacked. The handle is an anti-tamper clutched design that spins free under force instead of passing it to the bolt works. Every Falcon is a California DOJ approved firearm safety device, and every one is pre-drilled to bolt down to the floor, which is the single cheapest thing you can do to make any safe harder to steal.
Fire protection is 40 minutes at 1400°F, with fireboard in the ceiling, the walls, the floor and the door, and a heat activated intumescent seal that expands up to eight times its size to close the gap against heat and smoke. We will not call it fireproof, because no safe is. Fire resistant is the honest term, and if you want a longer window the Raptor series runs 80 minutes and the Thunderbolt series 160.
Made In Caldwell, Idaho
Falcon safes are made in the USA with global components, at our plant about 35 miles outside Boise. Rhino Metals started in 1995 as a metal fabrication shop and built its first gun safe in 1999, and in a real sense a fabrication shop is still what we are. A company that got very good at steel before it ever got into security.
That matters here more than it does further up the line. An American made gun safe at this end of the market is not a given. Most of what you will compare Falcon against is built overseas and finished here, and the difference shows up in the warranty, in whether anyone answers the phone, and in whether parts still exist in ten years.
Built To Fit Where Others Will Not
Every Falcon is 22 inches deep. Our heavier series run 25 to 27, and those few inches decide whether a safe goes in a closet, along a hallway wall or into a finished basement without eating the room. It is a compact gun safe in footprint only. The interior still takes 42 to 52 long guns. If you have measured an opening and come up short before, this is the series to measure again.
The handle is a space saving drop design that sits close to the door instead of spoking out from it, so the safe needs less clearance in front. External hinges still let the door swing a full 180 degrees, which is what makes a narrow installation usable rather than merely possible.
