VAULT DOORS

Rhino vault doors are made in the USA with global components

A vault door turns a closet, a basement corner or a spare room into the safe. Every Rhino vault door carries a patented anti-tamper clutch handle, two independent relockers, and an internal release with a panic room lock-in, plus a limited lifetime warranty.

In-swing and out-swing · 90 to 120 minutes of fire protection · fits walls 8 to 12.5 inches · Find a dealer for availability and special offers.

A vault door is not a larger gun safe. A safe is a box you put things into. A vault door protects a room you walk into, which means the closet under the stairs, the corner of the basement, or the space behind the mechanical room becomes the thing that is secured.

That changes what you can store. Long guns standing upright instead of racked, ammunition, optics, documents, the safe itself if you want it, and a place for your family to be behind steel if it ever comes to that. A safe secures what fits inside it. A vault door secures everything in the room.

How A Rhino Vault Door Is Built

Every door is 12-gauge formed steel with a full coverage quarter inch steel face or core, hung on a steel outer frame. Turning the handle drives large 1.25 inch diameter doorbolts into the frame on three sides, sixteen of them on an out-swing door and twenty-one on an in-swing. Three sided coverage matters more than the count does, because a bar worked into one edge still has to defeat the other two.

The lock is UL listed and sits behind a ball bearing drill plate. If someone attacks the lock, a spring loaded relocker fires and holds the bolts where they are. A second tempered glass relocker does the same thing if the glass is broken by drilling or impact, deadbolting the system so the door cannot be opened even with the lock removed. The handle is our patented anti-tamper clutch design, which spins free under force instead of transmitting it to the bolt works.

Every door also carries an internal release and panic room lock-in mechanism, so the room can be opened from the inside and held shut from the inside. If you are building a safe room rather than a storage room, that is the feature to look at first.

In-Swing Or Out-Swing

This is the decision that settles most of the others, and it is usually made for you by the opening. An out-swing door opens toward you into the hallway or basement, which keeps the floor inside the room clear and lets the door fit a much wider range of wall thicknesses. An in-swing door opens into the room, which is the right answer when there is no space to swing a door outward, and it is the stronger choice if someone is going to be inside it, because the frame stops the door from being pulled outward at all.

Measure the finished wall thickness before anything else. Out-swing doors clear 8 to 12.5 inches, and openings over 8.5 inches need longer bolts, with a concealment panel available to cover the interior frame. In-swing doors are built for 8 to 8.5 inch walls, and thicker walls interfere with the swing.

What Comes Standard

Every Rhino vault door ships with a UL listed lock, dual intumescent fire seals that expand under heat to close the gap around the door, the ball bearing drill plate and both relockers, the patented anti-tamper clutch handle, and the internal release and panic room lock-in mechanism. Every door can be ordered with a standard or reversed opening, and all of them are made in the USA with global components.

The clamshell frame is the part installers appreciate. It trims out the opening and hides the rough framing, so the door suits finished and unfinished walls alike without separate casing work. Choose the Ironworks line for an industrial cast hand wheel and an antiqued finish, or the Rhino line for five spoke vault style handles with decorative finials. The security package underneath is the same either way.

Limited lifetime warranty. It covers defects in workmanship and materials, plus free repair or replacement after a break-in. Vault doors carry their own warranty document, separate from the one covering our gun safes. If you want to see a door in person before you commit, our dealers can show you one.
